English words for Turkish speakers

One look, one word.

The English word you are about to forget comes to your iPhone's Lock Screen.

The app's interface is in Turkish.

How it works

You just answer.

The app works out which word comes back, and when.

  1. Pick your level

Start with A1, A2 or B1; A1–A2 and the first 100 B1 words are free. Pick 1–20 new words a day.

  2. Recall, then answer

Open the card to see the Turkish meanings and an example sentence. Tap Biliyorum (“I know it”) or Tekrar (“again”). Questions get harder as you learn: four options, letter tiles, a gap in the sentence.

  3. It comes back on time

A word you know comes back less and less often. When you are about to forget it, it is back on your Lock Screen. The Progress tab shows where you struggle; the hardest words can be drilled on their own.

The card for wonder in the app: A2, verb; Turkish meanings merak etmek and hayret etmek; the example “I wonder who that girl is.” with its Turkish translation and its Tatoeba source.
The app's Decks screen, in Turkish: A1 Beginner (1,165 words) and A2 Elementary (1,409 words) are free; B1 Intermediate (2,441) is open with a 'first 100 free' badge; B2 Upper intermediate (2,752) and the academic decks are locked, in Plus.

The review rhythm

  • Biliyorum (“I know it”): the word moves to the next interval.
  • Tekrar (“again”): the word is asked again the same day and starts over.
  1. 1day
  2. 3days
  3. 7days
  4. 14days
  5. 30days

The exercise ladder

Questions get harder as you learn.

A new word starts as a card. Every correct answer moves it up one box, and the next time it comes back it asks a harder question. A word you mark Tekrar (“again”) drops to box 1 and is asked again the same day.

  • Box 1: a card; recall first, then open
  • Boxes 2 and 3: four options
  • Box 4: build the word from letters, the “learned” gate
  • Box 5: fill the gap in a sentence
  1. The opened card for wonder in the app (in Turkish): A2, verb, pronunciation and a speaker button; the Turkish meanings merak etmek and hayret etmek; the example “I wonder who that girl is.” with its Turkish translation and its Tatoeba source.

CardTry to recall the word first, then open it: meanings, pronunciation and an example sentence.

  2. A four-option question in Turkish: “Which one means 'gitmek'?”; the card shows gitmek, verb; below it the options study, stop, drink and go, and Emin değilim (“not sure”).

Four optionsDistractors come from the same level and part of speech. A wrong answer counts as “again”.

  3. A letter-tile question in Turkish: “Build the word from its letters”; the card shows the Turkish meaning hareketsiz, durgun (adjective) and five empty slots; below, the letters s, f, t, e, i, l, p, l and the buttons Bilmiyorum (“I don't know”) and Emin değilim (“not sure”).

Build from lettersYou get the Turkish and build the English word from letter tiles. A word that passes this gate counts as learned.

  4. A gap-fill question: the sentence “Please sit s _ _ _ _ while I take your photo.”, its Turkish translation, the hint “first letter: s” and a Göster (“show”) button.

Gap in a sentenceWith the Turkish translation and the first letter as hints. Showing the answer costs nothing; then you say whether you recalled it.

Progress

See where you struggle.

The Progress tab shows the box distribution, the last 12 weeks, the review load for the next 7 days and your recall rate. The words you drop most often get their own list, and you can drill just those. Free.

  • Hardest words: drill only those
The app's Progress screen, in Turkish: 0 learned, 69 learning, 34 due, 1,075 queued; the box distribution (new 21, familiar 35, settling 34, solid 0, learned 0); the 12-week heatmap with a 9-day streak and the note that one empty day was forgiven this week; below, the next 7 days with 56 reviews.

Listen mode

Review without looking at the phone.

The words are read aloud in turn: the word, its Turkish meaning, the word once more, then the example sentence. It keeps going while the screen is locked. Listening does not change the schedule; the reviews stay on the Today screen.

  • Word → Turkish → word → example sentence
  • Keeps going with the screen locked
  • Today's words, the hardest words or the learned ones
  • System voices, free
The listen screen “Today's words”, in Turkish: 1/44, an “example sentence” badge; the opened card for still (adjective, pronunciation, the meanings hareketsiz, durgun, gazsız and the example Please sit still while I take your photo.); below, previous, pause and next buttons; a note that listening does not change the schedule.
